Kolohe Kai is an award-winning worldwide Hawaiian reggae musical group famous for phenomenally popular songs of the genre. They possess one of the most iconic reggae pop songs of the century with their smooth, romantic sounds that can appeal to every music lover. The group met in high school in their Polynesian music class in 2006. They participated in a local talent show, and 17-year-old lead singer-songwriter Roman De Peralta was then signed to a recording label, followed by the rest of the band. Their sound infuses the localism of ukulele music with rhythms of roots reggae and, more recently, pop and R&B — pushing Kolohe Kai into an elevated tier of Island Reggae.
Their debut album, "This Is The Life," got them on the top charts in 2009. The album includes the smash songs "Cool Down" and "Ehu Girl," which became one of the music staples of the decade. Both songs remain as Kolohe Kai's all-time most popular songs on Spotify at over 41 million combined streams. Their music created a phenomenon of cooling off and catching surf mined with the unbridled imagery and energy of fun in the sun producing hypnotically joyous tunes. De Peralta values living a simple life and being a successful Hawaiian artist. By 2011, they released "Love Town," which put them in the Pacific reggae, with the album containing the hit song "First True Love." De Peralta became the "Justin Bieber of Hawaii," with their popularity becoming undeniable as they became one of Hawaii's #1 most streamed reggae artists of the past decade, with over 40 million streams in 2020 alone. Kolohe Kai was nominated for four 2021 Island Music Awards, including Male Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for his recent single "Catching Lightning," expanding to pop influence through collaborations with renowned Grammy Award-winning producer Brian Kierulf.
Catch the group this year as they embark on a journey along with American reggae singer and rapper Matisyahu and alt-reggae pop-punk energy Cydeways. They'll be at the Waikiki Shell this 29th of September to give you their trademark of a feel-good brand of irie-reggae. Get those tickets now!
